7 Stars is a fictitious skateboard company I created during one of my Graphic Design courses.
For the project I designed a total of four decks, company logo, and some apparel.
7 Stars Skateboards Sampson BoardThe Sampson board was inspired by the story of Sampson in the Bible. The particular scene I chose to depict, is when Sampson takes up the jawbone of a donkey and kills 1,000 men, as told in Judges 15.
My research for the project included reading the story, watching a few scenes on youtube, and a search for inspirational imagery. I chose the image to the left as inspiration because I liked the stark somberness of the scene.
I did a very quick sketch of the idea I had for the board, and quickly got to work. I did most of the work in Photoshop. Sampson was digitally drawn using the inspirational image as reference, the background scene was a photograph I had taken and applied an oil paint filter to, and the bodies on the ground are all from photos I have taken and edited to fit the scene.
7 Stars Skateboards David BoardThe David board is based on the story of David and Goliath in the Bible, 1st Samuel 17.
To research for the project I read the story, and researched inspirational images to use as reference for the design of the board.
I chose the inspirational image on top as I liked the simplistic way it tells the story of David and Goliath.
I really wanted to display the good vs. evil factor in this board, hence the bright light on one side and the cloud of darkness on the other. The silhouettes of the characters and ground were drawn in Adobe Illustrator, and then opened in Photoshop for the final touches.
I was hired by a local couple to take baseball photos of their son last season.
They wanted me to create two baseball card designs, one vintage and one modern.
Zach Vintage Style CardThis is a custom vintage baseball card design, I created in Adobe Photoshop. I pulled out my old card collection for inspiration.
Zach Baseball cardThis is a custom modern baseball card design I created in Adobe Photoshop.
It has been awhile since I have purchased baseball cards, or even looked at any, so for inspiration I visited a local sports collectors shop in town, and browsed through modern cards online.
Gro Home is a fictitious company I created for one of my Graphic Design courses.
We had to research a technology being developed at MIT and create a company that utilized that technology.
The technology I chose was called City Farm, scientific small scale urban farming.
Gro Home is a company that produces self sustaining growing pods for home use, that utilize aquaponics,
grey water, and solar power to grow vegetables in the comfort of home.
Gro Home LogoI wanted an earthy and natural color scheme and a simple logo that would convey the message of the brand but still feel simple and organic.
Along with researching the technology, I also studied up on permaculture and organic farming to prepare for the design phase of this project.
Gro Home Gorilla MarketingOne of the required deliverables for this project was to create a Gorilla Marketing idea.
So as they say, "what goes in, must come out" I thought catchy phrases on bathroom stalls may be a successful campaign.
Magadd1The magazine adds were directed at anyone he has a family to feed, but is tired of the circus experience that grocery shopping can be from time to time.
Most of the inspiration for these adds came from either stories I have heard, read, or lived, I let you decide which one I lived :)
